MODE’s Auto Logistics Solutions Achieve Near-Perfect Scorecard

MODE achieved a 99% rating not just once, but for 12 months straight. In the high pressure, highly demanding world of automotive logistics, a near-perfect scorecard like that is simply unheard of. In fact, MODE is this manufacturer’s only logistics provider that’s done it to date.

In Major League Baseball, near-perfect games are rare. But at the highest level in automotive logistics, near-perfect performance is even rarer.

On-time performance is no joke when it comes to providing logistics services to automotive manufacturers. Part delays threaten production and when production gets knocked offline it’s big money. As a point of reference, the automaker from this case study lost over $4 million dollars a day during the six-week 2023 UAW strike.

That’s why MODE Global is still celebrating its near-perfect scorecard rating for this Big 3 automotive manufacturer. MODE achieved a 99% rating not just once, but for 12 months straight. In the high pressure, highly demanding world of automotive logistics, a near-perfect scorecard like that is simply unheard of. In fact, MODE is this manufacturer’s only logistics provider that’s done it to date.

A big reason for the automaker’s unmet scorecard standards prior to MODE was the automaker’s preference for working with asset-based carriers over third-party logistics providers (3PLs). This strategy limited the manufacturer to using their carrier’s assets and drivers in every lane – and every transportation manager knows that no carrier is the best carrier in every lane. Adding to the complexity, auto parts get picked up from over 100 suppliers and delivered on a just-in-time (JIT) basis to six assembly plants within 12 to 24 hours.

MODE proved that a 3PL could function as a tightly coordinated unit despite the vast number of carriers and equipment in play. Part of the success of the program lies in the strong relationships between carriers and the automaker as well as between carriers and MODE’s lane reps. In addition, MODE provides the automaker with one point of contact and a simplified solution, this helps carriers within MODE’s network to pick up and haul each other’s trailers and backhaul empty racks to suppliers in a continuous loop.
