Parcel shipping is the delivery of small, lighter weight goods that are not palletized. You can ship packages up to 150 lbs. (68kg), 108" (274cm) in length, and 165" (419cm) in length plus girth.
Freight shipments are typically palletized and weigh more than 150 lbs.
While services are going to vary between providers and ultimately depend on what needs you have as a business, you could consider: a full audit and evaluation of your current program, parcel spend reduction, a parcel shipping platform, e-commerce integrations, returns management, audited and/or customized invoicing, global parcel services, integrations and support and transportation management. These types of services will help increase operating efficiency and visibility.
Not necessarily, but it all depends on which partner you ultimately select. If continuing to use your own systems is important to you, finding a partner that can integrate with your current system should be a key part of discussions during vendor selection.
Each provider should provide some sort of designated tracking number for your order. This number can be tracked directly on the carriers’ website.
Packages should arrive on the estimated delivery date and time provided by the carrier at the time of receipt. If a package is delayed, it may be due to an unexpected event or customs regulations and should be reflected on the carrier’s website in your tracking area.
You can request a Signature Proof of Delivery letter with detailed information by providing your account number to the carrier. If the package is lost a trace can be opened with the carrier to investigate further.
It is recommended to use pressure-sensitive plastic tape, water-activated paper tape or water-activated reinforced tape to seal packages. Cellophane tape, duct tape, masking tape, string and rope are not recommended.
There are several available third-party-approved locations to drop off a package. Each carrier website contains a link to find the location nearest you.
